Self Harm/Injury Awareness Day

Meow so this may be a bit of a weird blog post but today which is the 1st of March is Self Harm/Injury Awareness Day therefore I thought that I would do a blog post about it. It may be triggering to some so if you don't want to read it for that reason then I totally understand but I hope that you find it interesting if you do read it!

So by definition, self harm is deliberate injury to oneself, typically as a manifestation of a psychological or psychiatric disorder. That is the definition when you type in google. This includes cutting or burning yourself, starving yourself, misusing alcohol and other things.

I want to talk about why people do it and this may seem a bit stupid but there is a reason. People think it is to get attention and this is not the case. We need to remove the stigma of this. Self harming is a used for coping. It is a coping mechanism. Self harm is a way of coping or expressing overwhelming emotional distress. This could be to do with social factors. Someone may be getting bullied and they can't turn to anyone therefore it is their only way to let it out. It could be via trauma. Things may have happened in the past and it is their only way of coping with it. These issues could build up intense feelings of anger, self-hatred and other feelings. Many people don't want to die and self harm may be the only way for them to cope with distress.

Many people don't talk about their experiences with self harm and we need to more. They may keep it a secret as they feel guilty or shame so they may cover up the areas that they have self harmed. If anyone that you know or yourselves is self harming then try to talk to them and then try to get them to talk to their GP's as this will seriously help. This may take a long time to do but it will be worth it.

Read this post as it may help a little bit more: http://t.co/HIvfNpSLha
I hope that this post has been interesting and I hope to see you next time!
Don't forget to check me out on my Social Media links and if you or anyone that you know is self harming then try to get help please and try to stop. It will be hard but you will be stronger once you have done.
Meow!
